Center Cab Diesels
The Burlington was unusual in their early diesel days since they purchased locomotives from builders who specialized in industrial units. Here are a few examples of these engines.
111, 44 Ton, was built by Porter in October 1930, #7186. It was renumbered 9111 in July 1933, and 8902 in May 1952. It was retired in November 1964 and scrapped in October 1965.
112, 60 Ton, was built by Whitcomb in March 1932, #50007. It was renumbered 9120 in 1933 and was sold to the Illinois Midland Ry in July 1959. The final disposition is unknown
9121, 65 Ton, was built by Midwest in October 1933, #1073. It was sold to the U S Army as 7196 on October 12, 1941. In March 1947 it was sold to Stockton Terminal & Eastern as 10. It was scrapped on October 26, 1959.
9122, 65 Ton, was built by Midwest in August 1934, #1074. It was retired in December 1962 and scrapped in May 1963.
9123, 65 Ton, was built by Midwest in October 1934, #1075. It was sold to Precision National Corp in October 1965.
9103, 44 Ton, was built by General Electric in August, 1940, #12908. It became Burlington Northern 1, Class SW-3, in early 1970, and was sold to Precision Engineering Corp on November 27, 1970.
9105, 44 Ton, was built by General Electric in February 1941, #12950. It became BN 2, Class SW-3, in 1970 and was sold to Precision Engineering on November 27, 1970.
