Union Pacific

4-6-2s
We try to answer the needs of our readers, and in response to a request regarding UP Pacifics, we present the following. If anyone has addition information regarding these photos or engines, please advise so that we can continue to upgrade our pages. And we got a reply from Jeff Aley. We include info from him in our comments.
Here are some older photos that could use some descriptions.
Here is 2860 while it was being stored during the downturn prior to the Korean conflict. It was built by Alco in 1912 and was Class P-8. Note the Sweeney stack, boxpok main driver, and oversize sand dome. These were typical of Kansas Division locomotives. It was put back into service and was one of the last Pacifics in service.
2864 and 2867 were also built by Alco in 1912.
2879 was built by Brooks in May 1913, #53364, and was formerly 180.
The next group were all built by Lima in 1914 and were Class P-10. 2889 is shown in its original configuration, and again at the Topeka depot, pulling the Kansas Division local #69. Note the Harriman baggage behind the engine. The depot is behind the photographer, and the building at the left side of the photo is the Forbes flourmill. 2897 illustrates the occasional use of Pacifics on freight trains. This was possible on the Kansas Division, which was flat and had few curves east of Topeka. Pacifics were occasionally used on stock extras where the tonnage was light and speed was important.
3153 was Class P-1.
I have no data on 3216.
