Center Cab Diesels

During the depression and just before World War II, the Milwaukee Road invested in a group of small diesels for branch lines and small yard switching. Here are several pictures and information on these locomotives.

1801 was built by Whitcomb in June 1930, #50005 as 5801. In 1939 it was renumbered E91. It was rebuilt by Whitcomb in August 1941 as 1801. It was sold to the U S Government on October 7, 1944.

1690, built by General Electric, September, 1940, #12909, became class 3.6G-s. It was renumbered 1699, and then 990 in 1959, and traded in to Electro-Motive in 1967.

1705, built by Whitcomb, October, 1941, #60093, became class 3.8W-S. It was renumbered 995 in 1959, sold to the Ortner Co. on January 6, 1960, and then became Midland Ross Corp. 995.

996, built by Whitcomb, October, 1941, #60094. Class 3.8W-S. It was renumbered from 1706 in 1959, and was retired in 1966.
