Arizona & California RR

 

The AZCR operates over 297 miles between Phoenix and Cadiz, CA, with a branch to Blythe.  It was purchased by RailAmerica on November 6, 2001.

2001, GP20, was built by Electro-Motive in July 1960, #26045, FN 5624-1, as Union Pacific 700. It was renumbered 470 in 1963 and later sold to Precision National Corp in October 1977. It was rebuilt at Paducah in 1979 as South East Coal Co 2001. It was later sold to National Ry Equipment Co on March 30, 1991, and then to ARZC as 2001 in May 1991.  It was retired as NREX 2001 in 1997 and sold as Penny-Newman Grain Co 2001 in 2001.

2003, GP20, was built by Electro-Motive in August 1960, #26047, FN 5624-3, as UP 702. It was renumbered 472 in 1963 and later sold to SECCo as 2006. It was sold to ARZC as 2003 in 1991. In 1997 it was sold to National Ry Equipment as 2003. In 1998 it became Tacoma Municipal Belt Line 2003. This road was renamed Tacoma Rail in 1999 and returned as NREX 2003 in August 2011.

2004, GP20, was built by Electro-Motive in July 1960, #26046, FN 5624-2, as UP 701.  It was renumbered 471 in December 1962 and retired in October 1977.  It was sold to Precision National Corp in October 1977 and rebuilt as GP21.  It was sold as SECCo 2004 in April 1979 and sold as NREX 2004 on March 30, 1991.  It was leased as ARZC 2004 in May 1991 and returned as NREX 2004.  It was sold as Columbia & Cowlitz Ry 700 and sold as Larry's Truck Equipment 700 in December 2011.

2005, GP20, was built by Electro-Motive in August 1960, #26072, FN 5624-28, as UP 727.  It was renumbered 497 in December 1962 and retired in October 1977.  It was sold to Precision National Corp in November 1977 and rebuilt as GP21.  It was sold as SECCo 2005 in May 1979 and sold as NREX 2005 on March 30, 1991,  It was leased as ARZC 2005 and returned as NREX 2005.  It was sold as C&C 701 and sold as LTE 701 in December 2011.

3002, GP30, was built by Electro-Motive in September 1963, #28499, FN 7663-8,, as Chesapeake & Ohio 3023, Class MRSE-30. In 1964 it was reclassified as Class GP-30 and later rebuilt as Class GP-30M. It was later renumbered 4217 and then became CSX Transportation 4217, Class GP-30M. It was sold to Ohio Central RR as 4217 and then sold to ARZC as 3002 in 1998.

3003, GP30, was built by Electro-Motive in September 1963, #28502, FN 7663-11, as C&O 3026, Class MRSE-30.  It was reclassified as Class GP-30 in 1964 and rebuilt later as Class GP-30M.  It was renumbered 4220 and then became CSX 4220, Class GP-30M.  It was sold to OHCR as 4220 and later sold to ARZC as 3003 in 1998.  It was sold as Fillmore & Western Ry 3003 and resold as Bountiful Grain & Craig Mountain RR 3003.

3502, GP35, was built by Electro-Motive in February 1965, #30356, FN 7793-29, as Pennsylvania RR 2339, Class EF-22. It became Penn Central 2339, Class EF-22, in 1968 and Consolidated Railroad Corp 2339 in April 1976 and later ARZC as 3502 in 1995.  It was transferred as California Northern RR 3502 in 2001 and sold as FMWX 3502 in 2003..

3503, GP35u, was built by Electro-Motive in February 1965, #29729, FN 7756-28, as Southern Pacific 7727, Class DF-625.  It was renumbered 6624, Class EF425-3, in 1965 and rebuilt as 6356, Class EF425-K1, on December 13, 1979.  It was retired on October 3, 1995, and sold to Progress Rail on March 22, 1996.  It was assigned as Sidney & Lowe RR 6356 in September 1996.  It was sold as ARZC 3503 in October 1997, and sold as Heart of Georgia RR 1635 in 2006.

3801, GP38AC, was built by Electro-Motive in February 1969, #34828, FN 7158-6, as Baltimore & Ohio 3705, Class GP-40. It was returned to General American Transportation as GATX 3705 on May 17, 1984.  It was rebuilt by Mid-America Car at Cleburne as GP38AC in May 1991 as ARZC 3801 and renumbered 3892 in 2003

3802, GP38AC, was built by Electro-Motive in March 1969, #34853, FN 7158-31, as B&O 3730, Class GP-40. It was returned as GATX 3730 on May 17, 1984.  It was rebuilt by Mid-America Car at Cleburne as GP38AC in May 1991 as ARZC 3802 and renumbered 3893 in 2003. 

3803, GP38AC, was built by Electro-Motive in March 1969, #34847, FN 7158-25, as B&O 3724, Class GP-40.  It was returned as GATX 3724 on May 17, 1984.  It was reuilt by Mid-America Car in Cleburne as GP38AC in May 1991 as ARZC 3803.  It was transferred as North Carolina & Virginia 3803 in 2002 and renumbered 3837 in 2003.

3804, GP38AC, was built by Electro-Motive in February 1970, #35673, FN 5747-9, as Illinois Central 9508.  It became Illinois Central Gulf 9508 in 1972 and sold as Missouri-Kansas-Texas 333 in 1985.  It became Union Pacific 1990 on April 4, 1989, and wrecked on November 22, 1989.  It was sold to National Railway Equipment in December 1990 and rebuilt as ARZC 3804.  It was renumbered 3894 in 2003.

3901, GP39-2, was built by Electro-Motive in April, 1984, #837058-19, FN 837058-19, as Missouri-Kansas-Texas 378.  It became Union Pacific 2377 on December 17. 1990, and renumbered WP2377 as retired on November 22, 2000.  It was sold to Larry's Truck Electric as LTEX  2377 and resold as ARZC 3901 in 2006.  It was sold as Cleveland Commercial RR 2377 in 2012.

4002, SD40M, was built by Elecctro-Motive n February 1969, #34373, FN 7163-4, as Southern Pacific 9005, Class EF636-4, SD45.  It was rebuilt at Sacramento as 7522, Class EF636LR-1, on September 21, 1984, and rebuilt for Helm Leasing Co as HLCX 6402, SD40M.  It was sold as ARZC 4002 in 2001.

1 "Appekunny Mountain" was built by American Car & Foundry in October 1950, as Great Northern 1290 "Appekunny Mountain".  It became Burlington Northern 1200 "Appekunny" in 1970 and sold as Grant Supply Co 1290 "Appekunny Mountain".  It was sold as ARZC 100 "Appekunny Mountain" and transferred as California Northern RR 100 "Appekunny Mountain".

 

Even the Parker station looks sharp.
