Arizona & California RR

 

The AZCR operates over 297 miles between Phoenix and Cadiz, CA, with a branch to Blythe.  It was purchased by RailAmerica on November 6, 2001.

2001, GP20, was built by Electro-Motive in July 1960, #26045, as Union Pacific 700. It was renumbered 470 in 1963 and later sold to Precision National Corp in October 1977. It was rebuilt at Paducah in 1979 as South East Coal Co 2001. It was later sold to National Ry Equipment Co on March 30, 1991, and then to AZCR as 2001 in May 1991.  It was retired as NREX 2001 in 1997 and sold as Penny-Newman Grain Co 2001 in 2001,

2003, GP20, was built by Electro-Motive in August 1960, #26047, as UP 702. It was renumbered 472 in 1963 and later sold to SECCo as 2006. It was sold to AZCR as 2003 in 1991. In 1997 it was sold to National Ry Equipment as 2003. In 1998 it became Tacoma Municipal Belt Line 2003. This road was renamed Tacoma Rail in 1999.

3002, GP30, was built by Electro-Motive in September 1963, #28499, as Chesapeake & Ohio 3023, Class MRSE-30. In 1964 it was reclassified as Class GP-30 and later rebuilt as Class GP-30M. It was later renumbered 4217 and then became CSX Transportation 4217, Class GP-30M. It was sold to Ohio Central RR as 4217 and then sold to AZCR as 3002 in 1998.

3502, GP35, was built by Electro-Motive in February 1965, #30356, as Pennsylvania RR 2339, Class EF-22. It became Penn Central 2339, Class EF-22, in 1968 and Consolidated Railroad Corp 2339 in April 1976 and later AZCR as 3502 in 1995.  It was transferred as California Northern RR 3502 in 2001 and sold as Fillmore & Western RR 3502 in 2003..

3801, GP38AC, was built by Electro-Motive in February 1969, #34828, as Baltimore & Ohio 3705, Class GP-40. It was returned to General American Transportation as 3705 on May 17, 1984.  It was rebuilt by Mid-America Car at Cleburne as GP38AC in May 1991 as AZCR 3801 and renumbered 3892 in 2003

3802, GP38AC, was built by Electro-Motive in March 1969, #34853, as B&O 3730, Class GP-40. It was returned to General American Transportation as 3730 on May 17, 1984.  It was rebuilt by Mid-America Car at Cleburne as GP38AC in May 1991 as AZCR 3802 and renumbered 3893 in 2003.

3804, GP38AC, was built by Electro-Motive in February1970, #35673, as Illinois Central 9508.  It became Illinois Central Gulf 9508 in 1972 and sold as Missouri-Kansas-Texas 333 in 1985.  It became UP 1990 on April 4, 1989, and wrecked on November 22, 1989.  It was sold to National Railway Equipment in December 1990 and rebuilt as AZCR 3804.  It was renumbered 3894 in 2003.

Even the Parker station looks sharp.
