Electro-Motive GP40 Diesels

(500) was built in August 1968, #34077,as Missouri-Kansas-Texas 194.  It was assigned UP 500 but retired on April 28, 1992.  It was sold for scrap to Hyman Michaels on March 17, 1993.

501 was built in August 1968, #34078, as MKT 195.  It became UP 501 on August 19, 1990, and retired on October 9, 1992.  It was sold to RailTex as Missouri & Northern Arkansas as 501 in October 1992 and renumbered 4044.

502 was built in August 1968, #34079, as MKT 196.  It became UP 502 on July 18, 1990, and retired on October 9, 1992.  It was sold to RailTex as MNA 502 in October 1992 and renumbered 4007.

503 was built in August 1968, #34080, as MKT 197.  It became UP 503 on June 2, 1990, and retired on October 9, 1992.  It was sold to RailTex as MNA 503 in October 1992 and renumbered 4006.

504 was built in August 1968, #34081, as MKT 198. It became UP 504 on July 27, 1990, and retired on October 9, 1992. It was sold to RailTex as Missouri & Northern Arkansas as 504 in October 1992.

505 was built in August 1968, #34082, as MKT 199.  It became UP 505 on June 9, 1989, and retired on October 9, 1992.  It was sold to RailTex as MNA 505 in October 1952 and was transferred as Alabama & Gulf Coast Ry 4005.  It was transferred as Eastern Alabama RR 4005.

 

(506) was built in August 1968, #34083, as MKT 200. It was assigned UP 506 but was retired on October 9, 1992, and sold to National Ry Equipment Co. They sold it to Virginia Southern as 200.

507, GP40, was built in August 1968, #34084, as MKT 201. It became UP 507 on November 10, 1989, and retired on October 9, 1992. It was sold as MNA as 507 in June 1993.

508 was built in August 1968, #34085, as MKT 202. It became UP 508 on June 9, 1989, and retired on October 9, 1992. It was sold to Railtex in October 1992, as M&NA 508 and was transferred to Dallas Garland & NorthEastern as 508 in March 1996. It was renumbered 4025 in March 1999.

510 was built in August 1968, #34087, as MKT 204.  It became UP 510 on August 4, 1989, and retired on October 9, 1992.  It was sold to Railtex  as M&NA 510 and wrecked on January 3, 1993.  It was sold for scrap to Erman Corp.

511 was built in August 1968, #34088., as MKT 205.  It became UP 511 on January 18, 1990, and retired on October 9, 1992.  It was sold to Railtex as M&NA 511 in December 1992 and later renumbered 4010.

512 was built in August 1968, #34089, as MKT 206.  It became UP 512 on October 10, 1990, and retired on October 9, 1992.  It was sold to Railtex as M&NA 512 in December 1992. It later became VSO as 512 and later Godrich-Exeter RR 4046.

(514) was built in August 1968, #34091. as MKT 208.  It was planned as UP 514 but retired on May 15, 1990.  It was sold to Morrison Knudsen on May 22, 1990, and rebuilt as Southern Pacific 7299 on February 15, 1991, a GP40M-2.  It was assigned Union Pacific 5434 in September 1997 and renumbered 1534 on June 30, 2005.

582 was built in November 1969, #35455, as MKT 212. It became UP 582 on January 16, 1991, and sold to Helm Leasing on May 29, 1998. It was rebuilt by Boise on November 13, 1998, as UP 2556. It was assigned as as 1056.

584 was built in November 1969, #35457, as MKT 214.  It became UP 584 on March 19, 1990, and retired on December 28, 1998.  It was sold to Helm Leasing on May 29, 1998, and rebuilt by Boise Locomotive on December 28, 1998, as UP 2558, GP38-2.  It was renumbered 1058 on December 16, 2004.

(587) was built in November 1969, #35460, as MKT 217. It was assigned UP 587 but retired on February 28, 1989,  It was sold to National Railway Equipment Co in October 9, 1991, and rebuilt it in August 1993 as Nebraska Central RR 4203.

588 was built in November 1969, #35461, as MKT 218.  It became UP 588 on January 25, 1990, and was renumbered 805 on February 19, 1998,  It was sold to Helm Leasing on May 29, 1998, and rebuilt by Boise on December 28, 1998, as UP 2580.  It was assigned as 1060.

589 was built in November 1969, #35462, as MKT 219.  It became UP 589 on December 28, 1989, and sold to Helm Leasing on May 29, 1998.  It was rebuilt by Boise on October 21, 1998, as UP 2561.  It was assigned as 1061.

593 was built in November 1969, #35467, as MKT 224.  It became UP 593 on August 20, 1990,  and sold to Helm on May 29, 1998.  It was rebuilt by Boise on October 30, 1998, as UP 2565.

595 was built in November 1969, #35469, as MKT 226.  It became UP 595 on March 29, 1989, and was renumbered 3000 on February 9, 1991.

597 was built in November 1969, #35470, as MKT 227.  It became UP 596 on March 29, 1989, and was renumbered 3001 on February 1, 1991.

599 was built in November 1969, #35473. as MKT 230,  It was scheduled as UP 599 but was retired on February 6, 1990.  It was sold to National Railway Equipment in May 1990 and resold to Morrison Knudsen on March 6, 1991.  It was rebuilt as Southern Pacific 7117, GP40-2, on May 24, 1991, and was scheduled as Union Pacific 5387 and rescheduled numbering as 1487.

600 was built in September 1966, #32232, as Chicago Rock Island & Pacific 340. It became UP 600 on April 16, 1980, and later became Missouri Pacific 600 on June 7, 1985. It was retired June 5, 1991, and sold to National Railway Equipment Co on October 9, 1991.

604 was built in September 1966, #32237, as CRI&P 344. It became UP 604 on April 8, 1980, and later became MP 604 on April 15, 1985. It was retired August 10, 1987, and sold to Morrison-Knudsen on October 28, 1987. It was rebuilt and became Metro-North Commuter RR 4186 on August 27, 1988.

605 was built in September 1966, #32238, as CRI&P 345.  It became UP 605 on March 10, 1981, and later became UP 605 on April 18, 1985.  It was retired October 23. 1991. and sold to Helm Financial on March 17, 1993.

606 was built in September 1966, #32239, as CRI&P 346.  It became UP 606 on April 3, 1980, and later became MP 606 on November 24, 1984.  It was retired August 10, 1987, amd sold to Morrison Knudsen on October 28, 1987.  It was rebuilt and became New Jersey Transit 4140 on May 31, 1989,

619 was built in September 1966, #32243, as CRI&P 350. It became UP 610 on April 6, 1980. It was retired August 10, 1987, and sold to Morrison-Knudsen on October 28, 1987. It was rebuilt and became MNCRR 4184 on May 18, 1988.

616 was built on October 1966, #32248, as CRI&P 356, It became UP 616 on April 7, 1980, as later MP 616 on April 19, 1985. It was wrecked and retired on February 6, 1990, and scrapped.

622 was built on December 1966, #32590, as CRI&P 364. It became UP 622 on April 7, 1980, and later MP 622 on March 11, 1985. It was retired October 9, 1992, and became NRE on March 17, 1993. It became Dakota Minnesota & Eastern 4004 "City of Dodge Center" on September 1994.

628 was built in December 1966, #32597, as CRI&P 371. It was transferred to UP 628 on April 12, 1980, and then to MP 628 on November 16, 1984. It was retired and sold to Morrison Knudsen on August 10, 1987. It was rebuilt by MK on November 5, 1990, as St Louis South-Western 7274. It was assigned UP 5391 in September 1997 and reassigned 1491 in December 1999.

631 was built in March 1970, #36386, as CRI&P 4700. It became UP 631 in June 1983 and later MP 631 in November 9, 1989. It was retired October 8, 1992, and became NRE in March 17, 1993. It later became DM&E 4005 in September 1994.

632 was built in March 1970, #36387, as CRI&P 4701. It became UP 632 in April 2, 1980, and later MP 632 on July 26, 1985. It was retired May 29, 1992, and became NRE in March 17, 1993. It later became M&NA 632.

636 as built in March 1970, #36391, as CRI&P 4705. It became UP 636 on April 3, 1980, and was sold to NRE on March 17, 1993. They sold it to M&NA as 636.

637 was built in March 1970, #36392, as CRI&P 4706. It became UP 637 on April 14, 1980, and later MP 637 on May 10, 1985. It was retired October 26, 1988, and became VMV Enterprises on January 28, 1989. It then became Helm Leasing on 1989 and then UP 856 on July 14, 1989. It was rebuilt as GP38-2 by Boise in July 1998 as UP 2533 on July 25, 1993. It then as UP 1033 on August 27, 2001.

639 was built in March 1970, #37394, as CRI&P 4708.  It became UP 639 on April 5, 1980, and MP 639 on September 23, 1985.  It was retired on October 23, 1991, and sold to Helm Financial on March 27, 1992.

640 was built in March 1970, #36395, as CRI&P 4709.  It became UP 640 on April 23, 1980, and retired on October 23. 1991.  It was sold to NRE on 17 March 1993 and sold to Railtex as MN&A 640.  It was renumbered 4015.

642 was built in April 1970, #36397, as CRI&P 4711. It became UP 642 on June 5, 1985. It was retired on June 23, 1991, and went to National Railway Equipment Co on March 17, 1993.  It was sold to Railtex as MN&A 642 and renumbered 4012. 

643 was built in April 1970, #36398, as CRI&P 4712,  It became UP 643 on April 29, 1980, and retired on August 21, 1991,  It was sold to National Railway Equipment Co on October 9, 1991, and sold to Dakota, Minnesota & Eastern 4002 in September 1994.

645 was built in April 1970, #36400, as CRI&P 4714. It became UP 645 on April 4, 1980, and later MP 645 on February 20, 1985, and later UP 645 on January 25, 1990. It was retired on October 23, 1993, and became NRE on March 17, 1993. It became M&NA 645 and renumbered 4044.

646 was built in April 1970, #36401, as CRI&P 4715.  It became UP 646 on April 10, 1980, and retired on August 10, 1987.  It was sold to Morrison Knudsen and rebuilt as a GP40FH-2 New Jersey Transit 4141 on May 19, 1989.

652 was built in May 1966, #31663, as Western Pacific 3502, Class RS-68. It became UP 652 on January 9, 1984, and was retired April 5, 1993. It went to Morrison Knudsen where it was rebuilt on November 20, 1993, as Kansas City Southern 4766.

(669) was built in August 1970, #36827, as WP 3520, Class RS-68. It was assigned UP as 669 and retired on August 31, 1985. It was returned to Helm Financial Corp, and in April 1987 it became Chicago Missouri & Western 3003. It became Gateway Western in January 1990. It was sold to Wilson Ry Corp in September 1990 and then to Wisconsin Central Ltd as 3003 in December 1990.

(671) was built in August 1970, #36783, as WP 3522, Class RS-68. It was assigned UP as 671 and retired on August 31, 1985. Iit was returned to Helm and in April 1987 it became CM&W 3005. It became GW 3005 in January 1990. It was sold to Wilson in September 1990 and then to WCLtd as 3005 in December 1990.

672 was built in August 1968, #34288, as Penn Central 3111, Class EF-30. It became Consolidated Railroad Corp 3111, Class GP-40, in April 1976, as Missouri-Kansas-Texas in 3111 as 1983. It was renamed as 237 in 1983 and then as UP as 672 in September 15, 1989. It was scheduled as 9955 but retired.

(675) was built in August 1970, #36787, as WP 3526, Class RS-68. It was assigned UP as 675 and retired on August 31, 1985. It was retired to Helm and in April 1987 it became CM&W 3009. It became GW on 3005 in January 1990. It was sold to Wilson in September 1990 and then to WCLtd as 3009 in November 1990.

676 was built in August 1971, #37839, as WP 3528, Class RS-86. It became UP 676 in August 1985 and sold to Helm Leasing Corp in September 30, 1986. It was sold to CM&W as 676 in April 1987 and renumbered 3011. It became Gateway Western 3011 in January 1990 and later to Wilson Ry Corp in September 1990. It was then sold to WCLtd as 3011 in November 1990.

(677) was built in August 1971, #37840, as WP 3529, Class RS-68. It was assigned UP as 677 and retired on September 30, 1986. It was returned to Helm and in April 1987 it became CM&W as 3012. It became GW on 3012 in January 1990. It was sold to Wilson in September 1990 and then to WCLtd as 3012 in November 1990.

681 was built in September 1968, #34329, as PC 3152, Class EF-30. It became CR 3152, Class GP-40, as April 1976, as MKT in 3152 in 1983. It was renamed as 246 and then as UP as 681 in February 1, 1991. It was retired in April 14, 2000, and became Sharpsville Container Co 681.

(685) was built in September 1971, #37848, as WP 3537, Class RS-68. It was assigned UP 685 but was retired on September 1986 and returned to GATX. It went to CM&W as 3020 in April 1987 and became GW 3020 in 1990.

(688) was built in September 1971, #37852, as WP 3541, Class RS-68. It was assigned UP as 688 and retired on September 30, 1986. It was returned to Helm and in April 1987 it became CM&W 3023. It becane GW on 3023 on January 1990. It was sold to Wilson in September 1990 and then to WCLtd as 3023 in December 1990.

(693) was built in December 1965, #30955, as New York Central 3018, Class EF-30.  It became Penn Central 3018, Class EF-30, in 1968, and Consolidated Railroad Corp 3018, Class GP-40, in April 1976.  It was sold to Precision National Corp in July 1980 and as Chicago & North Western 5508 in July 1981.   It was assigned as UP 639 in August 1995 and reassigned 693 in December 1997 but retired on May 15, 2000.  It was sold and rebuilt as Paducah & Louisville 2115.

(695) was built in December 1965, #30957, as NYC 3020, Class EF-30, It became PC 3020, Class EF-30, in 1968, and Conrail 3020, Class GP-40, in April 1976.  It was sold to Precision National Corp in July 1980 and as C&NW 5510 in July 1981.  It was assigned as UP 641 in August 1995 and reassigned 695 in December 1997 but retired on July 25, 2000.

(704) was built in December 1965, #30969, as NYC 3032, Class EF-30.  It became PC 3032, Class EF-30, in 1968, and Conrail 3032, Class GP-40, in April 1976.  It was sold to Precision National Corp in July 1980 and as C&NW 5521 in July 1981.  It was assigned as UP 650 in August 1995 and reassigned 704 in December 1997 and reassigned as 9976 but retired on July 17, 2001.  It was rebuilt by National Railway Equipment as GP38-3 in November 2003 as Kankakee Beaverville & Southern 701.

(707) was built in November 1965, #30973, as NYC 3036, Class EF-30.  It became PC 3036, Class EF-30, in 1968 and Conrail 3036, Class GP-40, in April 1976.  It was sold to Precision National Corp in July 1980 and as C&NW 5525 in July 1981.  It was assigned as UP 653 in August 1995 and reassigned 707 in December 1997.  It was retired in 2000.

(712) was built in November 1965, #30979, as NYC 3043, Class EF-30.  It became PC 3043, Class EF-30, in 1968, and Conrail 3043, Class GP-40, in April 1976.  It was sold to Precision National Corp in July 1980 and as C&NW 5531 in July 1981. It was assigned as UP 658 in August 1995 and reassigned 712 in December 1997 and assigned 9984 but retired on May 15, 2000.  It was rebuilt as P&L 2119.

(723) was built in February 1967, #32886, as Denver & Rio Grande Western 3075. Class DE B-B 65, a GP40.  It was reclassified as Class EF430D-2 and assigned as UP 723.  It was not renumbered before it was retired on May 25, 2001.  It was sold as National Railway Equipment Co 3075 in January 2002 and rebuilt as GP38-2.

 

859 was built in May 1966, #31767, as Seaboard Air Line RR 600. It became Seaboard Coast Line 1515 in July 1967 and later became Seaboard System RR 1515. It was renumbered 6672 and later became CSX Transportation 6672, Class GP-40. It was sold to VMV Enterprises who rebuilt it as UP 859. It was later renumbered 2536.

878 was built in January 1967, #32488, as Chicago Milwaukee St Paul & Pacific 171, Class 30ERS. In 1968 it was renumbered 2044 and later became Soo Line RR 2044. It was sold to Helm Leasing as 2044 and later rebuilt as UP 878. It was retired on July 23, 1998, and retired to Helm.  It was sold as Florida East Coast Ry 452 in January 1999.
