974 was built in June 1963, #28296. It became BN 2251, Class GP-30, in 1970 and was rebuilt by Morrison Knudsen in October 1989 and became BN 2824 on October 11, 1989. It later became BNSF 2824, Class GP-39M, in May 2001.
