3048, SD40U, was built by Electro-Motive in October 1966, #32400, as Union Pacific 3048. It was retired on August 17, 1988, and sold to Wilson Ry Corp on October 24, 1988, and to Wisconsin Central Ltd in 1989 as lease unit 3049 and then to W&LE as 3049 in August 1992. It was rebuilt in December 1998.

It was retired on October 4, 1988, and was sold to Wilson on October 24, 1988. It was sold to WCLtd in 1989 as lease unit 4003 and then to W&LE as 4003 in August 1992. It was rebuilt on May 1, 1998.
