These were the second heaviest locomotives in Korea. They were rated as weighing 200 tons, while the Class 5 4-6-2s were rated at 201 tons. Peter Clark shows them as having been built as follows: 1 and 2 by Keijo in 1939, and 3 thru 50 by Kawasaki between 1942 and 1945. There was another group of Mountains, MT-2. I have no photos of these locomotives. 1 thru 20 were built by Kawasaki between 1942 and 1945. 21 was built in 1947. Of all the Mountains, James Heffner shows that 33 went to South Korea and 44 to North Korea at the time of the division. It could be assumed that the most of the North Korean locomotives were the MT-2s.
MT1-49 was built by Kishia in 1944.
