8677 was built in October 1971, #37730, as Seaboard Coast Line 2039. It later became Clinchfield RR 3626 and then Seaboard System RR 3626. It was renumbered 8939 and later became CSX Transportation 8939, Class SD-45. It then went to Morrison-Knudsen and was rebuilt on November 18, 1994, as SP 8677. On June 8, 1998, it became UP 4703, and was renumbered 2753 on May 2, 2001.
