Alaska Short Lines and Industrial Railroads

 

Alaska Central RR

1 was built by Portland in 1883, #499, as Northern Pacific 784.  It was sold as ACRR 1 in 1904 and became Alaska Northern Ry 1 in 1908.  It became Alaska RR 10 in 1920 and scrapped in 1930.

2 was built by Baldwin in 1881, #5880, as NP 846.  It was sold as ACRR 2 in 1904 and became ANRy 2 in 1908.  It became ARR 11 in 1920 and scrapped.


Alaska Engineering Commission

1 was built by Davenport in December 1907, #768, as Isthmian Canal Commission 802.  It was transferred as AEC 6 in 1917 and became Alaska RR 6.  It was renumbered 1 and displayed in October 1947.

Wesley Allen

These 2 cabooses were purchased from McDonald and had come from Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe. These have not been able to identify their history.


Chitina Auto Railer

When the Copper River & Northwestern closed in 1938, parts of the the line continued to operate with various motors.

This Chevrolet built with a bus body was saved by the Transportation Museum.

Premier Mine Co.

5 was built by Baldwin. It served at Moose Creek before it was put on exhibit at Palmer.


Valdez-Yukon RR

The early 1900s were built by several companies which attempted to reach the Coppor River by access through Valdez via the Keystone Pass. They failed and lost to Cordova. Remains can still be found.
