Third Avenue Railway

Passenger Cars 401 thru 528 

401 thru 528 were built by Brill, Jewett, and Standard Steel Car in 1908 for the Metropolitan Street Ry. Later they became the New York & Harlem Ry (New York Rys). In 1924 they were purchased by Third Avenue Ry for use on the former Union Ry lines. They were made surplus by the newer cars being built in the company shops. Twenty-five of them went to San Diego Electric Ry. in June 1942 where they became 1031 thru 1050 and were designated Class 9 cars. All were scrapped in 1947 except the 1043, ex TARS 436, which was acquired by the Bay Area Electric Railway Association.

409 was built by Brill in 1908 and was New York Rys 164. In June 1942 it was sold to SDER as 1033 and scrapped in 1947.

430 was built by Brill in 1908 and was New York Rys 185. In June 1942 it was sold to SDER as 1039 and scrapped in 1947.

431 was built by Brill in 1908 and was New York Rys 186. In June 1942 it was sold to SDER as 1040 and scrapped in 1947.

455 was built by Brill in 1908 and was New York Rys 210. In June 1942 it was sold to SDER as 1045 and scrapped in 1947.

460 was built by Brill in 1908 and was New York Rys 215. In June 1942 it was sold to SDER as 1046 and scrapped in 1947.

503 was built by Jewett in 1908 and was New York Rys 258. It was retired in December 1942.
