Freight service was always a big factor in the BCER. There was a substantial amount of switching in the Vancouver area, plus the 65 mile run to Chilliwack which was built for the logging industry. BCER became part of the BCH&PA. Later the rail operations were sold as the Southern Ry of British Columbia. They are now controlled by the same people as Montana Rail Link.
