Virginia Trolley Lines

Arlington & Fairfax Ry.

In 1891, the Washington Arlington & Fairfax built from Rosslyn, VA, to Fairfax via Vienna and Clarendon. In 1910, it was merged into the Washington & Virginia along with the Washington & Mt. Vernon. Bankruptcy occurred in 1924. The lines were split, and the local people organized the A&F to take over the line to Fairfax in 1927. Between 1936 and 1939, the line experimented with rail buses, but abandonment came in 1939.

214 was built by Jackson & Sharp in 1905 as Washington Alexandria & Falls Church 114. In 1910 it became W-V 214, and it kept the same number when A&F split off. It was scrapped in 1937.

313 and 314 were built by Brill in 1918 and kept the same numbers from the W-V. They were scrapped in 1937.

The rail buses were built by Evans in 1936.
