Akron is on the main line to Denver.
Illinois
South from Yates City are the lines into the coal regions of Western Illinois. Just north of Beardstown is Browning.
I could not find Camp Grant on any map, and I had to rely on memory to place it near Rockford.
Hinsdale was a suburban stop west of Chicago. The train is the original Zephyr.
Steward Junction is just east of Rochelle, and it is the place where Milwaukee Road trains to Ladd returned to their own trackage on the former Rochelle & Southern.
Halfway between Galesburg and Peoria is Yates City. In the photo, the fireman is getting orders for the final half of the run into Peoria.
Kansas
Atchison had a Union Station which also served the Santa Fe and the Missouri Pacific.
Wisconsin
On the main line to the Twin Cities, La Crosse, WI, was a major stop and had a modern depot.
