1501 thru 1630 were built by St. Louis Car in 1971 and 1972 for the Illinois Central and carried the same numbers. Some of the cars still carry the IC color scheme.
1631 thru 1666 were built to the same design by Bombardier in 1978 and 1979 after Metra took over the operation.
