In October 1975, the GCRTA took over the properties of the CTS and the Shaker Heights Rapid Transit. CTS had opened the Red Line in 1955, and there is an excellent online history of the line.
101 thru 113 were built by St. Louis Car in 1954 as single cars for the original line. 109 has been preserved.
151 thru 180 included the "Airporters" built in 1968. These cars had racks for baggage for airline passengers since it was expected that a large number would be attracted when the line was extended to the airport.
181 thru 200 are 1984 cars built by Tokyu Car of Japan.
201 thru 256 were also original cars built by St. Louis Car in 1954 as married pairs.
301 thru 340 were built by Tokyu in 1982.
