Kenosha Transit Lines

On June 17, 2000, Kenosha, WI, became a trolley city again. KTL established a 1.9 mile loop from the Metra station to the lakefront. This will provide convenient transportation between condominiums under construction and commuter trains to the heart of Chicago.

4606 was built by St Louis Car, Order #1674, and finished in 1950 by Canadian Car & Foundry, Order #1912, as Toronto Transit Commission 4528, Class A8. It was rebuilt in 1990 as 4606, Class A15. It was retired and sold to KTL where it kept the same number but was repainted in a Chicago Surface Lines scheme.

4609 was built by St Louis Car, Order #1674, and finished in 1950 by Canadian Car & Foundry, Order #1912, as TTC 4526, Class A8. It was rebuilt in 1990 as 4609, Class A15. It was retired and sold to KTL where it kept the same number but was repainted in a Pittsburgh Railways scheme.

4610 was built by St Louis Car, Order #1674, and finished in 1950 by Canadian Car & Foundry, Order #1912, as TTC 4541, Class A8. It was rebuilt in 1990 as 4610, Class A15. It was retired and sold to KTL where it kept the same number and a similar paint scheme.

The only piece of non-revenue equipment is a Unimog which performs all utility duties including snow plowing.

On July 22nd, Paul Weyrich gathered a group of traction aficionados for a morning of riding, which was followed by a lunch honoring Joseph McCarthy, the general manager. It was his vision which created this new concept in community development thru the use of electric traction. It was sad to learn that a month later, Joe went to his eternal reward at the age of 48. Here are photos of the ride during which rain threatened between the sunshine.
