City Cars 701-737
The 700s were a radical change in car design for the TM. 701-737 were built at Cold Spring in 1917 with center doors and MU pneumatic controls to allow for train operation. Using maximum traction trucks, they were two motor cars which made them badly underpowered and slow. They were rebuilt as one man cars with level floors, end doors, K35G control, 2 additional motors, and safety control. 721 was the first rebuilt in 1929 and had a wood floor. The others received concrete floors which increased their weight to 25 tons. In 1930, cars 705, 706, 713-720, and 722-734 were rebuilt. In 1931, cars 701-705, 707-712, and 735-737 were rebuilt. After 1948 they were used for tripper service, and all were gone by 1953.
